Frequently Asked Questions

Activities and work associated with an IB Diploma or Certificate subject which the student is studying as part of his/her programme cannot be counted towards CAS. CAS must be in addition to the rest of the courses.

Visits to art exhibitions, museums, musical and theatrical performances, as educational as they are in their own right, can only contribute towards the creative aspect of CAS if they directly inspire work or performance that the student is engaged in and then they should represent only a very small percentage of the total creative element. Visits are passive whereas CAS is about active pursuits. It is almost the equivalent of saying that a student has fulfilled the action part of CAS through being a spectator at all football matches throughout a season; clearly this cannot count. So reading books, going to theatres do not belong to CAS, neither Participation in Physical Education ( P.E ) nor Art classes which are compulsory and graded by the school can under no circumstances count as CAS.

Any activity for which the student receives remuneration cannot count.

Learning languages individually or in classes does not qualify as a creative (or any other CAS) activity.

Translation is a dubious service activity. Service is generally community, environmental or social service to an individual or several people who are underprivileged or handicapped in some way. Acting as an interpreter to assist say, refugees, or newly arrived migrants, would count, but not written translation of documents. It does not qualify for creativity either.

Any form of filial duty (i.e. within the family) or religious devotion cannot count. (eg. minding younger members of the family doesn't count.)

Practising for the school prom (Szallagavató) has C and A elements and the event itself involves S,too.

Taking driving lessons does not count as CAS. (The first aid course itself does. It includes C.)

Tourist guide course has C element. Some parts might include A,too.

Studying for OKTV (National Maths/Biology Competition) counts as C.
